An image of Jerry hung up on the walls of Jerry's Room. Seemingly taken in Level 30.

Jerry is a bird that resembles the hyacinth macaw parrot.

Description

Jerry is a bird that resembles a large hyacinth macaw. Unlike almost every other entity, there is only one Jerry in The Backrooms.

Appearance

There is only one Jerry in existence, meaning he is easy to identify. Jerry looks identical to a male hyacinth macaw, and presumably is an anomalous variety of them. Other than being slightly bigger than the average hyacinth macaw, there are no differences. What is of note is that Jerry is the only bird of this variety in The Backrooms.

Social Behaviours

Jerry spends most of his time flying around levels, especially levels 1, 2, and 3, trying to indoctrinate wanderers. When not doing this, he is at one of the many bases of the Followers of Jerry.

Followers of Jerry

Main article: Followers of Jerry

The Followers of Jerry, also known as the Cult of Jerry, (commonly shortened to either the F.O.J. or C.O.J.), are an enigmatic group of around 5,000 members, with bases on Level 2 (Holy Purple), and Level 3 (Blue Salvation). He also has a base on the secret level of Jerry's Room, although this one is less well-known. Their members are all people who have been indoctrinated by Jerry, although they still possess some independence. Facelings are also in this group. Faceling members of the F.O.J. are commonly known as “indoctrinated facelings” to outsiders.

Despite indoctrination, interaction with the F.O.J. is possible. However, be sure to praise Jerry, to avoid being indoctrinated yourself. The slightest hint that you aren't indoctrinated will cause members of the group to drag you back to Jerry and try to indoctrinate you. However, they aren't very intelligent, so most wanderers say that this isn't very difficult.

Biology

Habitats

Jerry seems to be immortal, and as such can live anywhere. However, he is most frequently found on Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. He is rarely seen outside quantum-stable levels.

Diets

Jerry does not seem to need to eat, although he has an appreciation for sunflower seeds and almond water. If you offer Jerry almond water and sunflower seeds when he approaches you, he will appreciate the offer, and will no longer try to indoctrinate you, and can be touched safely. However, Jerry will not actively seek out almond water or sunflower seeds.

If there is something Jerry hunts for, it's people. Jerry actively seeks out people, and spends most of his time doing that. His vision and smell are perfect, although he is not that fast, meaning he can be escaped. As soon as he notices a wanderer, he quickly flies over to them. Jerry will usually not pursue wanderers for too long, and can be stopped by giving him almond water and sunflower seeds. If Jerry does manage to reach the wanderer, he will land on the wanderer's shoulder. Said wanderer will become indoctrinated almost immediately, and start to worship Jerry as a godlike figure, mindlessly chanting things like “Jerry is everything”, “All hail Jerry”, and “Jerry is to die for”. After 2 hours pass since becoming indoctrinated, they will begin to navigate to Jerry's Room or one of The F.O.J.'s outposts. At these outposts, they will partially regain control of their minds, although still worship Jerry as if he was a god.

Escaping Jerry will cause one to noclip into the ground, and land on a variety of levels out of Jerry's reach.

Anatomy

Since Jerry has never been dissected, his anatomy is hotly debated. Although it was once thought Jerry's anatomy was either identical to that of a regular hyacinth macaw or very similar, most scientists now believe there are various differences. Firstly, Jerry doesn't seem to produce urine or excrement, neither does he seem to have to eat. It is thought that his stomach actually destroys atoms, which would be impossible in reality. Besides this, scientists are still debating on whether he has any internal organs, or just an incinerator stomach. Most scientists believe he has lungs and a heart, although nothing else besides blood vessels, therefore he has no digestive tract.

Reproduction

Jerry is immortal, and has not been known to reproduce. Whether he is infertile is unclear, as another bird of his variety has never been seen in The Backrooms.

History

The history of Jerry is easy to trace back.

Although not named directly, early catalogues of the birds in Level 30 report there being only one hyacinth macaw in the whole level, which is over 1,000 square kilometres. This bird is very likely to be Jerry, with the first reports of him dating back to 1773, around 40 years after the level's first discovery (1747). These reports also stated that the bird never needed to be fed, nor did it produce any waste. The bird was never touched.

By the early 1800s, a growing naturalist movement emerged in The Backrooms, which lead to many going to Level 30. Although some people were experienced, many just wanted to see the birds there. This led to the first person being indoctrinated into the Followers of Jerry in the early 1810s. A local report from 1813 describes around 3 “lunatics” calling what we now know to be Jerry “Father Bluebird” and worshipping him as if he was a god. Any attempts made to stop this resulted in the Followers of Jerry mauling said wanderer. By 1822, the local outpost had had enough, with over 16 people joining the F.O.J. by this point. They discovered a large pile of items in the corner of the level, and they soon cleared them out. As soon as they were done, there was a door, which Jerry immediately flew towards, threw open, and entered. His followers followed not long after. It is now known that this door leads to Jerry's Room.

After this, Jerry gained his name, since people he indoctrinated would chant things similar to “All hail Jerry”, and “Jerry is everything”. The Followers of Jerry slowly grew over time, seemingly peaking in 2009 and having plateaued ever since. This is likely due to increased awareness of Jerry and the dangers he presents.
