Anethikas

From The Backrooms Wiki
Entity 22
An anethika in a house on Level 94.
Entity Class:            Class 5C
》Very dangerous and hostile
》Animal-like intelligence

Anethikas are tall, lanky, completely dark entities that roam The Backrooms. They are similar in appearance to dullers, although are much more dangerous.

Description

Anethikas are a tall, dark, dangerous, and very common entity found on many Backrooms levels. They originate from The Void, and are one of the greatest hazards in early levels.

Appearance

Anethikas are a very tall entity, usually being upwards of 3 metres tall. Their body, however, is tiny, being only around 50 centimetres long. Most of their height comes from their long legs. Their arms are even longer, sometimes reaching upwards of 5 metres in length. Their upper arms are extremely muscular, but their lower arms are slightly skinnier. An anethika's hands are around the size of a human hand, but their fingers are extremely long, with their fingernails being even longer. They don't seem to have feet at all, with their legs merely tapering off.

Anethikas are most distinguishable from their head, which is a perfect circle with large, flat white eyes on it. Their neck is around 30 centimetres long, giving their head a wide range of motion.

Anethikas are completely black. They absorb all light cast onto them, and their skin is covered with the darkest substance possible.

Social behaviours

The social behaviour of anethikas has been scarcely documented, although they appear to be solitary and merely ignore other anethikas. Some information has stated that they wave to other anethikas or speak in a language incomprehensible to wanderers, but this is unconfirmed.

Biology

Habitats

Anethikas are found scarcely in nearly every level, but are far more common in levels below Level 10. As well, anethikas seem to dislike brightness (much like smilers), open sky, or small spaces. Due to these requirements, anethikas are found much more commonly in quantum-stable levels that are enclosed but have a high ceiling. This has led to Level 3, a level where all attributes are satisfied, infested with anethikas. Some estimates assume that over 50% of the entities on Level 3 are anethikas.

Diets

Anethikas seem to be an embodiment of The Void, or are, at the very least, from The Void. As a result, they do not have to eat. However, they are aggressive towards wanderers and only wanderers. Anethikas are not known to attack anything else. Anethikas seem to be able to sense wanderers from hundreds of metres away. Upon noticing a wanderer, they begin moving towards them. Although anethikas are able to move extremely quickly, this initial movement is likely slow. After going within a radius of around 50 metres around the wanderer, anethikas begin to chant. These chants are either complete gibberish or it is in a language no wanderers can understand. These chants cannot be recorded. All chants have been reported as being different, although there is a chance they merely sound different due to sanity loss. Little else is known about these chants, other than that they quickly drive wanderers insane. This form of insanity will never lead to insanitation, which has led some to believe that anethikas are stronger than The Backrooms itself. As soon as the chants begin, wanderers will find themselves moving very slowly, and being completely unable to move in mere seconds. The only way to stop an anethika's attack is to chant the Heart Sūtra. Chanting this will cause anethikas to slow down, and then they will proceed to melt and vanish into the ground. It's unclear what happens to anethikas after this. While most think they merely die, others think they noclip into another level, and others suggest that they run away, and them melting is just an illusion to distract wanderers. In any way, this is enough to prevent an anethika's attack.

If a wanderer fails to chant the Heart Sūtra in time, the anethika will continue to move toward the wanderer, until they are around 10 metres away from them. After this, an extremely loud, high-pitched (around 2khz) scream can be heard, while the anethika begins to rush towards the wanderer extremely quickly. The speed the anethika moves at has been estimated to be over 100 kilometres per hour. Upon reaching the wanderer, they are instantly absorbed into the anethika, which proceeds to vanish.

Anatomy

It is generally believed that anethikas have no internal anatomy, as they originate from The Void, and are completely solid inside. While some question this theory, nobody has ever been able to study an anethika's internal anatomy.

Reproduction

Anethikas have no genitalia and seemingly don't reproduce on their own. While anethika reproduction is a mystery, it is widely believed that wanderers who fall into The Void turn into anethikas, or that The Void creates them spontaneously. Others believe they are not actually a unique entity, but are merely a part of The Void.

Dos and Don'ts

Do

  • Chant the Heart Sūtra if you believe an anethika is attacking you.
  • Stay in enclosed spaces that anethikas can't reach.

Don't

  • Give in to their sanity-draining effects.
  • Attempt to attack an anethika with a weapon. They will merely absorb the attack.
